They're back! Davis Square's quintessential diner has re-opened with a facelift and scaled-up
table service. Unfortunately, after an auspicious launch, the food has apparently succumbed
to the jowls of mediocrity. The salad, for instance, featured an excellent mix of greens,
including arugula. However, it also had an unacceptable quantity of sand, which I discussed
with the manager, so that may not happen again. Avoid the spaghetti dinner for two.
Consider patronizing the Rosebud as a historical landmark that stands out in pleasant
contrast with the more trendy and yuppie (but quite worthy in their own right) new entrants
in Davis Square: Redbones and Picante. Rosebud also offers the shortest waits among the
popular weekend brunch spots in Somerville. See also: Kelly's Diner (6/95)
